Curriculum

Jorge Casillas received the MSc and PhD (with extraordinary prize) graduate degrees in Computer Science in 1998 and 2001, respectively, from the University of Granada, Spain. He is an Associate Professor with the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, University of Granada, where he is a member of the Soft Computing and Intelligent Information Systems research group. He was Visiting Research Fellow at the University of the West of England (Bristol, UK) in 2004.
His main research interests focus on big data, data stream mining, fuzzy systems, evolutionary algorithms, intelligent mobile robotics, and intelligent systems for marketing and business intelligence.
He has authored a book and edited five international books. Two of these books, which exceed 250 citations each (Google Scholar), were pioneers in the pursuit of interpretability-accuracy in fuzzy modeling balance when they were published in 2003. The remaining books cover the use of intelligent systems in marketing and business management. He is author of more than 30 refereed journal articles, 14 book chapters, and 60 conference papers. His h-index is 16 (Web of Science, Thomson Reuters) and 25 (Google Scholar). His publications accumulate more than 2,800 cites in Google Scholar.
His research has received the award to the best paper in the 3rd International Workshop on Genetic and Evolving Fuzzy Systems, Award to the Top Cited Article 2005-2010 of the Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence journal, and Award of the University of Granada to Excellent Research Works (call 2012).
He has advised four PhD theses on intelligent systems in marketing, data stream mining using evolutionary algorithms, traffic management my multiagent systems, and hierarchical fuzzy systems by multiobjective genetic algorithms. He has participated in three European projects (FP4 and H2020) and ten national R&D projects. He has been the coordinator or principal investigator of three projects (H2020, Spanish Agency for International Cooperation, and Andalusian Government). The current one of the H2020 is about the modeling of energy efficiency in hospitals.
He has participated in the organization of numerous scientific events, highlighting I International Workshop on Genetic Fuzzy System (GFS 2005), I and II Symposium on Fuzzy Logic and Soft Computing (LFSC 2005 and 2007) and 2nd International Conference on Machine Intelligence (ACIDCA-ICMI 2005). He has also been the General Chairman of the two editions of the International Symposium on Management Intelligent Systems (2012 and 2013), a pioneer congress in the field.
He serves on the Editorial Board of the Evolutionary Intelligence and Evolving Systems journals of Springer. He has been treasurer of the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technologies (EUSFLAT) from September 2007 to July 2011, he is member of the board since July 2011, and coordinator of the working group on Genetic Fuzzy Systems since September 2007.
