Oscar Cordón was born in Cadiz (Spain) on August 11, 1972. He received
his M.S. degree in Computer Science in 1994 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science in
1997, both from the University of
Granada.
He is professor at the
Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence of the University of Granada
since 1995 and Associate Professor since 2001, and he is a member of the
Soft Computing and Intelligent Information Systems research
group. He was also the head of the Virtual Learning Centre
of the University of Granada (CEVUG) between 2001 and 2005, and was awarded with the
Young Researcher Career Award in 2004.
Since April 2006, he is also affiliated to the
European Centre for Soft Computing where he is the Principal Researcher of the
Applications of Fuzzy Logic and
Evolutionary Algorithms Research Unit.
He has published more than 50 papers in international
journals, advised 9 PhD dissertations,
participated in 15 research projects and contracts supported by the European Commission, the
Spain's Government,
the Andalusian Government, the University of Granada and the Puleva Food S.A. bussiness
(being the main researcher in 5 of them), co-organized 8 special sessions in national and international Conferences, co-edited 5 special issues in different international journals
and 3 edited books (see editorial
activities), and co-authored the book
Genetic Fuzzy Systems: Evolutionary
Tuning and Learning of Fuzzy Knowledge Bases.
He also created and chairs since 2004 the Genetic Fuzzy Systems Task Force,
Fuzzy Systems Technical Committee,
IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and is Area
Editor of the International Journal of Approximate
Reasoning and treasurer of the EUSFLAT Society
since 2005.
His current main research interests are in the fields of: fuzzy rule-based systems; genetic
fuzzy systems; soft computing for forensic anthropology and medical imaging; and evolutionary
algorithms, ant colony optimization and other metaheuristics, and their applications to
different topics (information retrieval, bioinformatics, etc.).
